BETTY NESTER OBITUARY
Betty Jo Rasberry Nester, 78, of Hattiesburg, formerly of Laurel and Soso, died Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Forrest General Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 9 a.m. at Union Line Cemetery, Soso. The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Laurel. Rev. Gene Horton will officiate.
She was born April 23, 1932, to William Green and Virgie Knight Rasberry in Soso. She graduated from Soso High School and Mississippi College. She later did graduate work at the University of Mississippi and received a Masters in Counseling from University of Southern Mississippi. She taught English at Natchez, Ponotoc County, and West Jones and retired from Jones Junior College as a Vocational Counselor.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Laurel, Wesley Circle UMW, Wesley Sunday School Class, Soso O. E. S., and the Soso American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Moddie Harper Rasberry, and a sister-in-law, Brenda Mott Nester.
A loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, she will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joe N. Nester of Hattiesburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Donnie Zumwalt of Starkville, and their children, Collin Zumwalt of Lafayette, La., and Casey and Laura Zumwalt of Tupelo; one son, Bill Nester of Hot Springs, Ark., his children, Caroline, Anna Lauren, Mattie Read, Jonah and Luke Nester, and their mother, Jamelyn Nester of Hot Springs, Ark.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jon and Johncie Nester of Louin; and niece and nephews, Jodi Chancelor, Bryce Nester and Todd Nester. Grandsons, nephews, Sandy Stephens and Tommy Miller will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Chancelor, Howard Robertson, Dwain Morgan, Chris Zumwalt, Phil Zumwalt, Broadmoor neighbors, Wesley Sunday School Class, Dexter Parker, Lee Thames and friends from Provision Living.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 956, Laurel, Miss., 39441, or to the American Cancer Society , P. O. Box 22718, Oklahoma, City, Okla., 73123-1718.
