Hiram Washington Powell Prisoners of War Record showing
On 4 Jul 1863, about 30,000 Confederate soldiers surrendered at Vicksburg, thereby, ending the 47 days Siege of Vicksburg, MS during the Civil War. This page, of the Roll of Prisoners of War, lists Hiram at #162. In addition, it records several other local soldiers from Jones County and other nearby communities as members of his unit, Company C of the 7th Battalion, Mississippi Infantry.

War is hell and so is the price that's paid.
